Beaufort County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. In 2000, its population was 120,937; in 2005 the population was estimated to have reached 137,849. Its county seat is Beaufort. Beaufort County is one of the South's fastest growing counties, primarily because of development south of the Broad River. There is also a strong military presence around the city of Beaufort.
